"I am not signing this," she said, her voice a little hoarse.

"There is not much of a choice! I don't want you anymore!" Derrick yelled

"You can't do that! I am the one you love."

"The one I love is dead. Actually, she never existed. She was always a figment of my thoughts."

Karla took the documents, held it in both hands at the tip. "Here is the stupid signature you want!" She said as she ripped it to shreds

"That's an offense!" The lawyer protested.

"Doesn't matter! We are going to court anyways." She wiped the tear that escaped with the back of her palm as she stormed out.

"Try the coffee Terra" Jane offered. Terra squeezed her nose in disgust. "Nah!" She shook her head. Terra was in her first few months of the pregnancy, and she was rejecting almost everything edible. She preferred to consume the rather absurd kinds of food. Jane smiled at her; she remembered her pregnancy. Hers made her eat anything all the time.

"What would you have then?" Jane asked

  "Hot soup!" Terra said.

"That's what I'm in," Karla said. Her first words since they entered the restaurant.

"What happened to you?" Terra asked

"Whatever it is, I'm sure the dude over there that has been staring at your boobs which are not covered might I add can fix it." Jane spat.

Karla brushed off the comment as she narrated her ordeal to them. The seriousness in her eyes caused Jane to wonder if or not the lady was crazy. She had no right to anger like she was showing.

"Wow! You really outdid yourself this time" Jane said as she clapped her hands in a mock cheer.

The said admirer approached their table rather slowly. He smiled at them, uttering a hello as he turned to face his prize. "I'm Matt" he introduced. "I was sitting over there, and I could not help but notice your beauty."

Karla just stared at him like she understood no English. He cleared his throat as be summoned his confidence back. "Here's my card. Give me a call" he placed the card beneath her tea cup, turned and left.

"She didn't go after him. This is serious!" Jane said

"I think he's seeing someone else." Karla continued like nothing happened the last minute. "I got to do some investigating, and I think I found out who she is."

"It's rich of you to accuse someone of cheating."

"Do you know who she is?" Terra asked.

"She works in the same company. My source says they have been going on dates for weeks!"

"So, what do you want to do about it? He wants a divorce. He signed after all!" Terra asked

"I intend to find her and keep her away from him!"

  "How?"

"I have a picture" she shuffled through her purse to produce her phone. Turning it on, she showed them the picture.

"Well, she is pretty. I give her that," Terra said, "What do you think Jane?"

"I think she looks familiar. I just can't place it."

Karla focused on giving an inattentive Terra an explanation of her plan. How she intended to scare the Vivian girl away from her man.

"Aha!" Jane stole their attention. "I remember her now! She drives a red car right?"

  "Yes!" Karla nodded astound.

Jane turned to Terra "You know the lady I told you about? The one that parked her car to fix her lipstick?"

"The one that flipped you a finger?"

"Yes, the flipper! I recognize all that red!" She burst into hysterical laughter.

"She probably had her eyes on your man ever since. Who adds more color to her lips in the afternoon and on duty?"

"Do you know where she lives?" Karla asked

"Why would I? My sadness and heartfelt sympathy goes to Derrick. That man has put up with a lot! Still, he has such bad taste in women!"

"That's an insult" came the voice of a protesting Karla.

"I'm just saying, though. But think of it Terra, if this one's only flaw is a bad road attitude, don't you think she is a better choice?"

"I think you should let him go. You have hurt him enough." Terra admitted

"Think about it this way; he has given you the freedom to go ahead and shag who you like without being answerable to anyone!" June said.

Karla bent her head in thought; the rebellion had left her. She was going to lose in court anyway and might be stripped of his share in his properties. Terra was unwilling to join in her vengeance quest; Jane had never been an option. She sought to take out her rivalry a different way. A way she was yet to know."

Vivian smiled as she kissed her lover's lips in silent comfort. Lady luck was obviously smitten by her. First, she had placed Derrick in a controversial position that only she could help him out of, now he was divorced from his prostituting wife, and she played no role in it. "It will be fine; I am here for you. Always."

"I know. That is why I have come to see you. There is a serious matter I need to discuss with you."

"Is everything OK babe?" She asked as she played with his lazy blonde hair.

"Very fine." He pushed her gently off him as he bent to a knee. "I know this is sudden and giving the issues I am having you might think I'm not thinking straight, but I am." He pulled a ring from his breast pocket "Will you marry me Vivian and be the mother of my kids?"

"I will!!" She screeched as she threw herself into his arms.

Excitement choked her. She couldn't wait to show off her ring. He was hers at last. All her extra make-up to work, her fitting dresses had all paid off. She loved him, of that she was sure.

Robert Paisley’s stomach churned as he watched his wife across the dining room table. Worry and suspicion nagged him. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but Alexa seemed different. Was she seeing someone else? All the signs pointed to it. She glanced at him questioningly, and he smiled slightly, dropping his gaze to focus on the plate in front of him. He pushed the carrots around on his plate as a child would. He snorted inwardly. That was funny considering that he was a thirty-seven-year-old man. Yes, I am an adult. I should be man enough to confront my wife about my cheating suspicions. But, he wouldn’t. What if he was wrong and he ended up making thing worst with false accusations?

“You okay, honey?” Alexa asked, her brows knitting in concern.

  “Er, yeah sure.”

Her eyes narrowed. She didn’t believe him but didn’t push. Instead, she nodded and pushed her chair back.

“Alright, if you say so. I’m going to clean up.” She glanced at his plate. “You’ve barely eaten anything.”

Dropping his fork, he responded, “I had a big lunch.”

Alexa grunted softly. “Are you on a diet or something?”

Robert scowled. Was his wife making fun of him? He knew he had gained a few pounds, and his love handles were…well, a bit more to handle recently. He studied her carefully. Her expression was one of curiosity rather than amusement. I’m being paranoid.

“Nope, no diet,” he said with a smile.

She shrugged and collected the plate from the table. Robert watched her saunter to the kitchen. The seductive sway of her hips drew his gaze down to her perfectly rounded ass clad in tight jeans. Alexa was what many would call a bombshell, with her long blond hair and slanted green eyes. She was slender but had curves in all the right places. He often wondered how he had managed to land such a prize. He was not the type that women like Alexa usually went after. He was a bit on the chubby side and always had been. He wore wire-rimmed glasses and was the epitome of a computer geek.

She hadn’t married him for his money because he’d had none when they had met in college, although now he made enough to give her a comfortable lifestyle. Of course, Alexa was quite accomplished herself, with a career as a nurse anesthetist. They had a lovely home in an upscale neighborhood of Los Angeles.

He had noticed that Alexa seemed unhappy. Well, until a few weeks ago, that
is. That’s why he had come to the conclusion that maybe she was cheating on him. She started to come home much later than he knew her shifts to be, not to mention the glow she always had when she walked through the door.

“Maybe I’m looking too much into things. It could be that she is having great days and nights at work.”

Deep down he knew that was a load of crap, but he still clung to hope.

Robert let out a sigh and stood up ready to head upstairs. He paused as a thought occurred to him. Perhaps he needed to spice up their love lives with more spontaneity. Alexa was a thirty-five-year-old, highly sexual woman. Something told him, he wasn’t performing up to standard in the sex department. He grinned and turned toward the kitchen. Now was the perfect time to do something a bit different.

Alexa was bent over, loading the dishwasher. Robert approached her quietly. She gasped when he rested his palms on her hip. Straightening, she turned to give him a strange look.

  “What are you doing, Rob?”

“What I can’t touch my wife?”

Her brows shot up. “Uh, sure. It’s just that-never mind.”

Robert wanted to ask her what she was going to say but didn’t want to ruin the moment with talking. He cupped the back of her head and pulled her to him, covering her mouth with his. Alexa stiffened but quickly relaxed. He’d caught her initial reaction before it disappeared, though. He frowned but didn’t dwell on it. Excitement coursed through his veins, but he couldn’t help noticing that Alex didn’t share his enthusiasm. His lips moved slowly over hers, trying his best to get her in the mood.

He lifted her up and deposited her on the counter. Not one for spontaneous sex, Robert was a bit nervous. He parted her legs and stepped between the, sliding his hands under her shirt and up her torso. Alexa’s palms pushing against his chest stopped him. He pulled back.

“What is it, babe? Did I do something wrong?”

Alexa nibbled on her lower lip. “Um, no, Rob. I’m just not in the mood. Okay?” He stepped back and she jumped off the counter.

“I-I’m sorry. We haven’t been intimate in a while. I thought you would want to.”

She sighed. “Not tonight. I’m tired. I’m going to head upstairs.” She pushed past him and disappeared.

Robert stood rooted to the same spot.

“She’s cheating on me. I know it.”

Pain pierced his heart, his very soul. He loved his wife, and all he wanted was for her to be happy. Everything he had ever done since they married was to make her happy. But, it seemed his efforts weren’t good enough. He felt a pang of fear. If another man was making her happy, would she soon ask him for a divorce? He ran his fingers through his hair and let out a sigh. As if his self-esteem wasn’t low enough, now he had to deal with the possibility that another man was taking care of his wife’s sexual need and a more than likely doing a damn better job than he was.

  ***

Alexa stood under the spray of the shower. She closed her eyes and let the warm water run over her. The guilt she carried was becoming more overwhelming by the day. How long could she keep lying to her husband? She still loved Robert. He was an amazing man who took good care of her and their daughter, but he just wasn’t doing it for sexually anymore. She thought of the man she had been cheating on Robert with. The mere thought of him made her want to touch herself. She imagined his cock deep inside of her, as it had been earlier this evening before she got home.

He made her feel like no one else ever had, not ever her husband. She’d been fucking him for three months now and still couldn’t get enough. Why couldn’t Robert handle her like Chris did? When he fucked her, she felt like she was in heaven. He made her come so intensely she felt like she skyrocketed into oblivion each time. That’s what she wanted, no craved, someone who could fuck her senseless. She hadn’t known what she had been missing until that fateful morning when her car wouldn’t start, and Chris had offered her a ride home. It had been after a night shift, and Robert was at work, and their daughter was at school. She’d invited Chris inside, and things had gotten out of hand. She’s been sleeping with the sexy surgeon ever since.

“Tell me what’s going on with you, Alexa,” Robert demanded.

She wheeled around to face him, her brows knitting. “What are you talking about?”

His jaw clenched and unclenched several times. He squared his shoulders. “You’ve been more distant than usual, and you don’t even want me to touch you.”

She let out a laugh. “Rob, honey you’re being ridiculous, seeing thing that aren’t there. I don’t have time for this. I have to get to work in thirty minutes.” She turned around and continued to get dressed.

Robert let out a frustrated growl and pushed the door closed so their daughter, Michaela wouldn’t hear them. He stalked over to her and grasped her arm, spinning her around.

“Tell me what the hell is going on with you, Alexa. Now.”

She stared at him wide-eyed. “What has gotten into you, Robert?” She had to admit; she was a bit turned on by his forcefulness. Blinking, she shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Robert pinned her with blue eyes. He knew she was lying. She couldn’t even look him in the eyes “You’re cheating on me, aren’t you?”

Alexa froze. “W-why would you think that?”

“When I tried to initiate sex in the kitchen last week, you behaved…strangely.”

She snorted. “And that is an indication that I’m cheating?”

“No. There is also the fact that you always come home glowing as if you’ve just been thoroughly fucked. And then there’s this.” He held up his hand, and her gaze dropped to what he held.

She gasped. It was Chris’s Rolex. Her eyes flew to Robert. “Where did you find that?”

He snarled. “Seriously, Alexa? I find a strange watch in our house, and the question you ask is where I found it? How about who the hell it belongs to?” He bellowed; his face flushed with his anger. He sighed. “I found it under our bed,” he spat.

Alexa stood paralyzed. She couldn’t lie her way out of this one. She swallowed. “I-I’m sorry, Rob.”

That was all he needed to hear. He’d known she was seeing someone else. He took a step back. “In our bed, Alexa?”

Her head dropped in shame for a brief moment, then snapped up. “It only happened once in our bed. I’m sorry Rob, but I’ve been getting what I need from someone else. The sex between us just hasn’t been the same. Hell, it was never that great to begin with. I just didn’t realize that fact until I started sleeping with someone else.”

Now, it was Robert’s turn to hang his head in humiliation. His already low self-esteem had just been stomped further into the ground. “Do you love him?”

  “What?”

  “Do you love him?”

Taken aback, Alexa stammered. “W-well, I-I don’t know.” She stepped toward him. “I still love you, Rob. You’re a great man.”

He nodded. “I just don’t do it for you in the bedroom.” She remained silent. “I love you too, Alexa. I always will no matter what.” He cleared his throat lightly. “I suppose you’ll want a divorce now. It’s alright, as long as you’re happy.”

“I never said anything about a divorce. The notion never even crossed my mind.”

His gaze connected with hers. “Are you sure?”

She nodded. “Unless you want one. I’ll understand if you do.”

“How long have you been sleeping with this guy?”

She pursed her lips. “Three months.”

Robert sucked in a breath. “I see. Is it someone from work?”

Alexa shifted from one foot the other uncomfortably. “Do you want to hear the sordid details, Rob.”

  “Yes, tell me everything.”

She averted her gaze and let out a breath. “His name is Christopher James. He’s the chief surgeon at the hospital. When it first happened, I swore I wouldn’t do it again.”

  “But then it became ad
dictive,” Robert interjected.

  She shrugged. “Something like that.”

He let out a mirthless laugh. “Damn, this guy must be good. Bring him home, tonight.”

  “What? Rob, what the hell-”

“I said bring him home. If he knows how to fuck my wife properly, I would like to meet him. Perhaps I can learn a few things.”

Alexa’s eyes narrowed. “You aren’t plotting our murders, are you?”
